New Old Favourite #2: Pixi Lip & Line in Vintage Rose

**The product(s) mentioned in this post is purchased by me. I am not affiliated with any companies.**

*The New Old Favourite series features products in my collection that I had forgotten, and am re-igniting my new love for them.*

I have an unexplained affinity for things that are practical, travel-friendly, and 2 or 3-in-1. Well almost all thing travel friendly squeeze these features into 1, don’t they? :p

While trying out cosmetics from Pixi, I bought the lip & line. Reason was that, I wasn’t too much into lip liner then, and given the limited lip liners in my possession, I thought a perfectly matched lip liner would be perfect and best of all, it’s both products in 1 single pen! Great! Into the shopping basket it went.

The Lip Liner

It is waxy and can be quite difficult to apply (drag on skin) if you have dry lips. Staying power is good and it’s matte.

The Lipstick

It is moisturising with lovely smell. Not the sickly sweet vanilla scent but something along jojoba oil. Lipstick is also matte.

On my lips, it looks like this:

๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ The colour is very pretty. I wore it for work (well there isn’t any dress code in my work place anyway) and it’s moisturising enough that I do not need another layer of lip balm over it. Packaging is sturdy. The caps will never ever fall out inside your makeup bag (a very good point to have) thus colouring your other preciousss in Vintage Rose. The pen & caps are made of hard thick plastic which is unlike drugstore lipsticks, say Revlon or MUA for example. I will definitely purchase more shades from Pixi as it is a lovely product and not over the top expensive.

New Old Favourite #1: Rimmel Eyeshadow Duo in 321 Walnut Pearls

**The product(s) mentioned in this post is purchased by me. I am not affiliated with any companies.**

*The New Old Favourite series features products in my collection that I had forgotten, and am re-igniting my new love for them.*

Just as I was swearing off not wearing anymore taupe colours on my lid for now, I am back to this neutral tone from Rimmel. ๐Ÿ˜€ Oh fickle minded woman, I am!

Fairy Tale Time!

Long long time ago in the land of makeup newbie, the eyeshadow already came in many colours and palettes and singles and loose powder and cream and texture etc… Not to mention EVERY cosmetic company offered a wide range of it!

It made the newbie frightfully intimidated by it. Approaching the eyeshadows had always been a difficult and confusing task. Such task always ended up with nothing (arrrghhh!! WHICH one to choose??) or snatching one up in haste in order to end the misery and only resulted in disappointment when playing with it at home.

Of course, in those long ago times, this newbie did not know how to apply it properly, nor had any knowledge of making it lasts on lids. There was no kind and clever YouTube beauty gurus teaching her how to do all that without attending expensive makeup classes. She also had sentimental reasons to hold on to the eyeshadows that she ever bought.

Fortunately, with these sentimental reasons, an old favourite was born (??). ๐Ÿ™‚

**Success!!** Sealing in the Eyeshadow from Etude House, Attempt #5: Dual Primers (NARS + Maybelline) + MUFE Aqua Seal (Packing MORE E/S)

**The product(s) mentioned in this post is purchased by me. I am not affiliated with any companies.**

This post is part of the mini series of experimentations making the Etude House eyeshadow work for me. My scientific experiment training helps me through many attempts of making small change at a time to finally find a solution (yep! 5 trials!!).

Let’s get on with it. In my last attempt, in order to have more eyeshadow colour showing on lids, I stupidly patted on another layer of it on top of the Aqua Seal which was supposed to seal the eyeshadow in.

Obviously this hadย failed miserably.

In this attempt, I layered on more eyeshadow and finish off with a layer of Aqua Seal patted carefully on eye lids.

Here’s what I used (same as last attempt):

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe, MUFE Aqua Seal, NAR Smudgeproof primer, Etude House Line Nuance Duo

Quick steps (Eyes only)

The only differences this time compared to the last are: no foundation on lids and more layer of eyeshadows.

(1) Apply foundation avoiding lids. Last attempt I had foundation on lids. Could be the reason it failed.

(2) Use NARS Smudgeproof primer. Wait for it to dry.

(3) Patted on Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe.

(4) LAYER on the eyeshadow. I think 3 layers in total.

(5) Drop 1 drop of MUFE Aqua Seal on palm. Use finger to take some liquid and dab (NO RUBBING) on lids. The eyeshadow this time doesn’t get “dissolved” significantly.

(6) Fan eye lids with both hands frantically to make Aqua Seal dry. It does take longer than primer to dry.

(7) Highlight brow bones and inner corner of eyes.

(8) Line lower waterline with MAC’s Power Surge liner.

(9) Line upper lash lines using gel liner (I had a major meeting so I had to make sure eyeliner stay put) and mascara (it’s from Dejavu). ๐Ÿ™‚

Results (EOTD)

Well, I am happy to report that the eyeshadow stayed put throughout the day. No more creasing and hence I am showing photos of it. I wouldn’t want to show picture of creased eye-shadow, would I? :p

Final thought about the Etude House Line Nuance Duo

The amount of time spent prepping the lid, not to mention additional products added, in order to prevent it from creasing is just… too much to ask from a busy mum who could barely juggle work and family on a daily basis. Also, using so many layers of products made my lids feel a bit heavy, if you know what I mean.

The formula clearly is not good enough for performance. Perhaps on a short trip to the department store or on dry lid ladies this is still acceptable?

Colour is gorgeous, but not enough for me to spend too much effort with it. Anyway, we can always find dupes of it, eh?

For now, I am craving for colours other than taupe. I have had enough of this shade for the moment, and I want to get back to my safe greys and midnight blues and olive greens. ๐Ÿ˜€

I will look for the next challenge nevertheless. Until then, sawadee ka (hello/good bye).

Sealing in the Eyeshadow from Etude House, Attempt #4: Dual Base with NARS, Maybelline + MUFE

**The product(s) mentioned in this post is purchased by me. I am not affiliated with any companies.**

Since my failed attempt with using 1 base and 1 sealant (read here), yesterday I tried yet another attempt (#4) to stop this bloody eyeshadow from creasing. On top of NARS Smudgeproof base, I patted on a layer of Maybelline Color Tatoo in Tough as Taupe, a matte taupe cream eyeshadow. I have other Color Tattoos in shimmery shade and they have no problem with creasing, even without NARS primer. NARS is my definite fail-proof primer so far.

Anyway, in my experiments with creasing eyeshadow particularly one from Etude House, I did the follwoing:

ย  ย  NARS Smudgeproof primer as a base, Maybelline Color Tattoo as a second base and MUFE Aqua Seal (1 drop for both lids) on top of eyeshadow.

Since I wanted to get more colours as the Aqua Seal diluted the eyeshadow a bit, I patted on another layer of the eyeshadow on top of Aqua Seal. The colour on lid is beautiful.

I applied my makeup in the morning, and by afternoon the crease has happened. Darn! How could this happen??!

I shall try packing more eyeshadow on lids before sealing it with Aqua Seal in my next attempt. ๐Ÿ™‚

Never give up, never surrender!!
